The (apparently) Fat, Ugly Truth

Grace has a new obsession with the PBS program Super Why. She really likes Super Why...a lot! In fact, Super Why might be her first crush. And what's not to love?

He's smart...he can read. He likes to solve problems and he can fly. What else could a girl ask for right?

Super Why comes on at 9 am on weekdays so I decided to get all the running around done early this morning so we could be home in time for Grace's date with Super Why.

So at 8 am, the three of us were showered, dressed, faces on and at the grocery store doing the shopping for the week. Minding our own business. Grace was asking on repeat, "Can Super Why come to my house?" and Charlotte was rocking out to an overhead 80's song when out of the clear, blue sky....

"Is your next one going to be a boy?"

I looked around to see who was being asked this question.

Mind you...it is 8 am. I am the ONLY person at the grocery store. So the question was being asked of ME!!!

I just laughed and said, "I don't know!" and high tailed it out of the pasta aisle. (No more carbs. No more carbs. No more carbs.)

After paying and getting out to the car, I took a moment to evaluate what just happened.

I guess you could take the question two ways.

The first (nice?) way one could interpret the question is that the person asking the question noted the fact that I had two daughters with me. Perhaps she assumed that because I had two girls, the youngest getting to the age where one starts considering when, where, why, how to have another child, that I would, of course, have another child in the hopes of a boy.

The other way to take it, which is the way I took it, is you look pregnant and you already have two girls so you must be hoping this is a boy.

UGH.

So not the way I was planning on starting my day. My week...

Summer is Flying By

So it's summer! Lazy days and lounging around, right?! Yeah right!! All I know is summer is F-L-Y-I-N-G by...we've been busy, busy and more busy. And the funny thing is, if you asked me what was keeping us so busy, I couldn't pinpoint it.  Perhaps some bullet points will help?

- First and foremost, the mole I had removed...NOT melanoma! woo hoo!!

- Harvest is in FULL throttle. Court is working more than he isn't working. He does come home for dinner (and usually cleans up the dishes and takes out the trash - God Bless him) and then it's back to the farm until -most nights - well after my bedtime.

- Charlotte and Grace are sick. Just summer colds but still I've got one word for you - boogers!!

- Remember all those aches and pains I was complaining about? Well, everything still hurts. So much so I finally broke down and paid the $20 co-pay to see a doctor. Diagnosis? Tendonitis in the shoulder and elbow. (Apparently from hauling Charlotte around because it's only on my left side.) Or as the doctor politely told "Wimpy White Girl Syndrome." Yes, she told me that verbatim. So not only am I old and falling apart, now I'm apparently wimpy and...(gasp) white!! Already in the presence of a doctor and the co-pay already paid, I decided to ask the doctor about my delayed baby-weight weight loss. Operation Butterball just isn't working the way it did last time. I relayed to her my exercise regiment, my very clean diet and her response...verbatim mind you...."I don't feel sorry for you. I weigh now what I did the day I gave birth!" Ummmmmm....what?! What does your fat a@# have to do with mine?!?! Bottom line - she obviously didn't have a magic pill.

- Finally, the biggest time suck of all. Real Housewives of New York. hahah No really...my computer. It's hurt real bad. I basically can't import photos or videos which is pretty much killing me and can't access any videos I've previously uploaded. You can imagine my level of angst imagining I'll never view the countless. precious moments of my babies growing up. I've spent hour upon hour upon hour on the phone with Apple - only to be bounced from one agent to another, to be disconnected, to be placed on hold FOREVER and then at the end of all, my computer STILL DOESN'T WORK!!! They basically have no idea what is wrong with it - I've probably spent 12 hours on the phone with them - and I am literally hours away from a nervous breakdown. Nothing throws me over the edge like a big, fat, computer glitch!

Ok I think that is all I can think of at the moment. I'm exhausted. It's 10 pm and Grace has called me into her room about 8x to have her diaper changed. Mind you, this is the same kid who was practically potty trained two weeks ago but who has suddenly pulled up the e-brake and INSISTS on wearing only diapers - no panties. No pull-ups. No potty. Seriously?!

I'm Not Ready to Feel This Damn Old

I remember an (older) friend telling me that one day you wake up and just feel old. Maybe not mentally, but physically. Everything aches. Things hurt for no apparent reason. If that is the definition of old, than folks, I am old. Mentally, I feel like I can run for miles or dance for hours at the hottest clubs in the trendiest clothes and in the highest heels. In reality, I suck wind after just a mile and if by trendy you mean BIG and BAGGY than just call me Coco Chanel!

*sigh*

In order to lose the last 10-15 pounds of the most stubborn baby weight on planet Earth, I've been overdoing it. My reward for all this overdoing it? A sore shoulder. Tennis elbow and I'm not even playing tennis! A pain in my knee and my mole-removal-incision isn't helping in the I-feel-young-and-healthy department. But all that is worth it to see the numbers on the scale move downward, right? Probably. But I can't answer that because the *$%^ numbers on the scale ARE NOT BUDGING!

*SIGH*

To cheer me up, people (my mom because it's her job to make me feel better) keep telling me to not be so hard on myself. That birthing two big babies in 21 months is hard on one's body. Throw in 18 months of feeling hung over (morning sickness) and eating whatever crap you can find to self-medicate and it is bound to be an agonizingly slow road to squeezing back into those pre-pregnancy jeans.

*BIG LONG DRAWN OUT SIGH*

I am feeling sorry for myself. Yes. I have two healthy children, a roof over my head and ample food in the fridge...(hmmm maybe that's my problem?)...you get my point. I could have 'real' problems. But my God...this aging thing is really, REALLY hard and until it smacks you in the face, you don't appreciate it's power. I'm definitely not ready to be old and since I am planning to live not a day less than 100, it looks like I've got a hard road to tow...big ass and all!
